Can you take zinc and magnesium together?

Yes, in normal doses. Zinc and magnesium do not block each other at the doses found in most multivitamins or single-mineral supplements. They are often taken together in the evening, with food, to support sleep and recovery. Space them from very high-dose calcium, which can compete with both.

When competition matters

The concern about mineral competition is real only at very high single doses, especially with calcium. Standard zinc doses up to 25 mg and magnesium doses up to 400 mg taken together are well tolerated for most adults.

Practical timing

Take zinc with food to avoid nausea. Magnesium glycinate is comfortable on an empty stomach but also fine with food. Evening is a common slot for both because zinc can be drowsy-leaning and magnesium supports wind-down.
